Family Resources Newsletter – July 2021

Dear CDA Families,

Summer is a great time for families to enjoy time together. It is my favorite time of the year, especially living in sunny San Diego where the warm weather ligers all the way to October.  I enjoy the long days and warm nights with so many things to do and places to see, there is something for everyone. As a child, I remember summer was marked by the last day of school, taking frequent trips to the beach and roaming free until the sun went down.

Does your family have summer plans? Below, are some places to check out this summer that are free and fun for the whole family:

San Diego Beaches

Plan a day to visit all the beautiful beaches San Diego has to offer. Pack your bathing suit, sunblock and spend the day with the kiddos building sandcastles, collecting seashells while basking in the warmth of the sun.

Balboa Park

Take a walk at Balboa Public Park, entrance is free (except for Museums and some special events.) Balboa Park has an array of things to do and see such as gardens, playgrounds, fountains, Dog Park, trails, and more that you and your family can enjoy.

San Diego Farmer Markets

Enjoy delicious food, drinks, and desserts from various vendors, sample fresh produce grown in San Diego, and buy from local shops that make unique and handmade crafts, jewelry, soaps, and more.

Mission Bay

Mission Bay is the perfect place to stay active with about 20 miles of scenic paths that can be used to walk, jog, bike, skate, and exercise with workout stations throughout the shoreline.

Waterfront Park

Cool off on warm days at the Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego. The park has interactive splash fountains, a children’s play zone, and picnic areas for the whole family to enjoy.

Tide pools

La Jolla and Point Loma tide pools are the perfect place to explore the aquatic life with your children, make sure to go when tides are low.

Mt Laguna

Take a beautiful scenic drive to the mountains, stop for a hike or picnic while enjoying the beautiful views and fresh air.

In addition to visiting the places mentioned above, it’s always fun to plan activities at home, such as game night, movie night, picnics, and walks around your community. I can assure that your children will not stop talking to their friends about their amazing summer experience and the memories you create as a family.  Have a safe and fun summer!
