Supporting Essential Services: San Diego County Childcare Provider Grant Program

Back in August, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to distribute $25 million of CARES Act funding to child care providers in San Diego County who are offering essential services to local families during the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding was critical for childcare providers to keep their businesses open.

Over the last three months, CDA – in partnership with the County of San Diego, The San Diego Foundation, and YMCA Childcare Resource Service – has administered the San Diego County Childcare Provider Grant Program.

Over 3,100 childcare providers received a grant to support business expenses such as staffing, supplies, mortgage, and rental assistance.

“This program was amazing. We were able to get PPE for our students and staff. Additional cleaning supplies and cleaners were needed to clean and sanitize each classroom at night. Plexiglass shields were placed in the upper grade classrooms 1st-5th, and outdoor canopies were placed outside to hold small-distanced classes outside. Your program is enabling us to keep everyone on our campus safe.”

Even though all funds for the San Diego County Childcare Provider Grant Program have been exhausted, CDA remains committed to collaborating with partners and donors to bring additional resources to our community. CDA stands behind childcare providers and the critical work they do caring for and teaching children.
