Safe, developmentally-appropriate, and reliable child care is critically limited in our community. Many child care providers who wish to serve more children and families have a difficult time securing a suitable space to grow their business.

As a new partnership of Child Development Associates and Mission Driven Finance, Care Access Real Estate (CARE) San Diego works to help licensed child care providers lease a new property that will allow them to serve more children and families in San Diego County.

Expand your child care business in a CARE San Diego property

CARE San Diego plans to find properties that can be renovated for child care and offer them to child care providers who meet the criteria of a CARE San Diego tenant. With more space for learning activities and physical outdoor play, your business can grow to attract more families. After leasing a CARE San Diego property for at least two (2) years, the tenant may have the opportunity to purchase the property at a discounted price.*

We are currently accepting interest forms from licensed family child care home providers who are willing to live and operate their child care in the 92114, 91941, 91942, 91945, and 91977 zip codes (areas include Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Encanto, and La Mesa).

 

Are you a good CARE San Diego candidate?

If you are a licensed child care provider in San Diego who is ready to move or add a new location and:

  • Have an active child care license and been operating for at least two (2) years.
  • Currently rent your child care space.
  • Are eager to increase their child care license in a new space to serve more children.
  • Are willing to move and lease a CARE San Diego property.
  • Are fully enrolled, may even have a waitlist.
  • Regularly participate in professional and quality development and training.
  • Plan to operate a child care service for the foreseeable future.
  • Care or plan to care for children from families earning below San Diego County’s median income.

*Interest forms from licensed center child care providers will be accepted in 2023.

I don’t have a child care license. Am I a CARE San Diego tenant candidate?

At this time, CARE San Diego is only leasing to active licensed child care providers, who have been operating for at least two (2) years.

Does my child care business need to be in San Diego County?

Yes, at this time CARE San Diego is only available to licensed child care providers providing services in San Diego County.

How will a CARE San Diego tenant candidate be selected?

Providers who meet all need, quality, and capacity requirements as determined by the questionnaire, interviews, verifications, and documentation will be invited to become a CARE San Diego tenant candidate. Not all CARE San Diego tenant candidates will match with a property.

CDA Reimbursement Schedule
Family is authorized with a variable schedule

Variable schedules are reimbursed for the actual care hours provided that are within the hours authorized. The reimbursement will not exceed the amount billed by the provider or the full-time (FT) or part-time (PT) RMRC listed on the certificate for child care services. CDA will not reimburse for child absences, provider holiday or closure days on a variable schedule. If the full billed/invoiced amount is not paid, the parent is responsible for the difference directly to the provider.

Reimbursement of provider non-operation days/holidays

The number of reimbursable provider holidays and/or non-operation days is limited to a maximum of 10 days per fiscal year. Once these allowable limits are exceeded, reimbursement will be prorated for future closure days.

Reimbursement of registration fees, material fees, insurance fees

Fees for registration, material and/or insurance may be reimbursed if the current reimbursement amount does not exceed the Regional Market Rate Ceiling (RMRC). Reimbursement of these fees is limited to one (1) per child, per fiscal year and will be made in a single payment when requested on the child’s attendance record.

Note: For providers with programs that have multiple fees in one year or where it has been determined that the reimbursement amount exceeds the RMRC, the excess fees will be the responsibility of the parent.

License-Exempt Providers

When child care is authorized for a total of 25 or more hours per week the Full Time Weekly RMRC will be used. When child care is authorized for a total of less than 25 hours per week the Part Time RMRC will be used.
