Alternative Payment Program

Providing affordable and reliable child care.

Helping families afford child care services

Funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), CDA’s Alternative Payment Program (APP) continues to be a cornerstone in delivering dependable child care reimbursement to families in need across San Diego County. Our innovative parental choice program empowers parents to select the child care provider that aligns with their family’s unique requirements.

In a significant stride this year, CDA facilitated easier qualification for families by championing and implementing a state-wide change in categorical eligibility. Now, families enrolled in means-tested government programs including Medical, CalFresh, WIC, and others, automatically qualify for subsidized child care services, increasing accessibility and enabling CDA to serve more families in their time of need.

Nutrition Program

A healthy start for life!

Supporting children’s healthy nutrition

Administered by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), CDA is the largest Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in California. Our commitment extends across six southern California counties, where we administer vital nutrition education and reimbursement programs for Licensed Family Child Care Home and Trustline Providers. CDA takes an active role in the national CACFP Roundtable forum, passionately advocating for enhanced access to nutritious meals in child care settings. By contributing our insights and efforts to this forum, we strive to foster positive change and promote the importance of nutritious meals in the healthy development and growth of children in our community.

This is my 5th year with the program and I want to thank my monitor for her support and encouragement. Being able to provide meals that are well-balanced to the children is very important to me and for the parents. I encourage providers to participate and take advantage of this service that make our daycare better.

Supplemental Rate Payment Program

Additional Payments for Child Care Providers!

CDA was contracted by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to issue one-time Transitional Subsidy Payments and monthly Cost of Care Plus Rate Payments to eligible Stage One and Bridge Program child care providers across California. CDA proudly launched the Supplemental Rate Payment Program (SRPP), a dedicated team designed to provide comprehensive support to over 5,000 child care providers spanning 24 counties throughout California. This program has been instrumental in ensuring timely and efficient payments for the invaluable services these providers offer to our communities.

Providers work tirelessly caring for children so their parents can work or go to school and these supplemental payments help offset the high cost of running their businesses. We hope the extra funds help providers meet their own financial needs so they can continue their vital role of caring for and supporting working families.

Jolie Buberl, CDA Vice President, Family and Provider Programs

Wrapping 5 decades of positive change

In the span of 49 years, CDA has forged valuable community partnerships and introduced initiatives aimed at lifting up families and offering unwavering support to the child care community. These initiatives have included Preschool For All, Positive Change Giving Program, Family Support Fund, Back-to-School Resource Fair, Holiday Distributions, COVID-19 Emergency Response Support, Provider Stipends and Grants, and the Connected Families Program, to name a few.

As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2024, we take a moment to reflect on the challenges, growth, and triumphs that have shaped our organization. Simultaneously, we eagerly embrace new goals and ideas that will further enhance our ability to make a positive impact on the communities we are privileged to serve.
