CDA Supports Families with Diapers during COVID-19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bonita, CA, July 18, 2020 – Child Development Associates (CDA) held its first Diaper Distribution Drive-thru Event to support over 300 low-income families. The diapers were donated by the San Diego Food Bank in partnership with First 5 San Diego, and San Diego for Every Child; a coalition of local organizations working together to end the experience of child poverty in San Diego County. Literacy kits were also donated by Umpqua Bank, CDA Storytime! Literacy Program partner, to support this event.

With record numbers of individuals experiencing unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many local families are struggling financially. Diapers are a necessity for families with young children, but the expensive cost quickly adds up and diapers cannot be purchased with CalFresh or WIC benefits. CDA’s diaper distribution supports San Diego families in need during this difficult time.

“We know families are struggling right now and we don’t want families to have to choose between food, paying bills and clean diapers for their children” said CDA President and CEO, Rick Richardson. “This is one of the ways CDA employees are coming together with other partners to meet the urgent needs of San Diego County families.”

Families in need of diaper assistance not already participating in programming by CDA are encouraged to visit the San Diego Food Bank website or call 2-1-1, the county’s social services hotline. A 2-1-1 operator will provide locations and diaper distribution times closest to the caller’s area.
